The blazon of Monaco finds it’s origins in the Coat of Arms of the Grimaldi family and tells the story of it’s ancestry. The shield is dressed with the Collar of Saint Charles Order. On each side are saint Augustin Monks with swords in their hands. They refer to François Grimaldi who conquered the forteress of Monaco in 1297, with a few men disguised as Monks.
